Suitability

Not all patients are suitable for gamma knife treatment. It is only suitable for treating relatively small lesions which are within the skull. Typically these lesions are less than 4cm in diameter.

The London Gamma Knife Centre and Barts and The London NHS Trust do not currently offer gamma knife treatment to anyone under the age of 16 although a paediatric service is being developed.

Conditions which are commonly treated by gamma knife include:

  • AVMs (Arteriovenous Malformation)
  • Acoustic Neuroma
  • Cerebral Metastases
  • Meningioma
  • Pituitary Adenoma
  • Trigeminal Neuralgia
  • Other conditions can be treated and are assessed on an individual basis. These include:

    • Chordoma
    • Epilepsy
    • Glioma
    • Glomus Tumour
    • Haemangioblastoma
    • Haemangiopericytoma
