A stereotactic frame needs to be attached to the patient’s head prior to the start of treatment. Patients experience a feeling of tightness, pressure and discomfort while the frame is fitted. This feeling usually resolves itself after about 15 minutes, but some patients experience headache. The treatment itself is painless.
The stereotactic frame needs to be worn throughout the day, until treatment delivery is finished.
Not all patients are suitable and therefore may be declined gamma knife treatment by the multidisciplinary team.
